REPORT CRUELTY

While our primary focus is educating owners about proper care for their animals, we will use all the authority that we have been given to ensure every animal receives care as set forth by the law. Animal cruelty encompasses behavior harmful to animals ranging from neglect to malicious killing. Most cruelty investigated by Humane Officers is unintentional neglect that can be resolved through education. Intentional cruelty, or abuse, is knowingly depriving an animal of food, water, shelter, or veterinary care; or maliciously torturing, maiming, mutilating, or killing an animal.

Animal cruelty investigations do not include barking dogs, noise compaints, or loose animals. If you have a concern with a loud animal, call your local police agency.  If you see a loose or an injured animal on the side of the road, call your local animal control.

RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP

Did you know HIHS responded to over 4,700 calls for assistance last year?

Working within the community to keep loving owners and their pets together will create long-term and meaningful social change. Our primary focus is educating owners about proper care for their animals. Sometimes all the animal may need is a toy to keep them busy or a proper bowl for their water.

If you have any of these items, used or new, please donate them so that our Animal Control Officers are equipped to provide for our community and their pets:

- Leashes
- Toys (Hard chew toys preferable, KONGs)
- Metal Buckle Collars
- Dog Houses/Plastic Kennels
- Stainless Steel Bowls

If you'd like to purchase any of these, you can find our Amazon Wish List here: https://amzn.com/w/LUKQX6UHIWYP
