Classroom Visits

Our Humane Educator is available, island wide for school/classroom visits.

Shelter tours are also available at our 3 shelter locations. You may schedule a tour for your class, group, organization, or if you would just like to get a deeper understanding into the daily operations of your community animal shelter.

Jr. Pals

Junior Pals is our summer education program that teaches proper care and feeding of all domestic animals while also teaching children animal behavior characteristics.

New Leash on Life

Sponsored by Windermere Foundation, this program affords teens in foster or temporary housing a safe and fun outlet to spend some time with pets in our care that also may be missing that one on one connection they need.

Emergency Preparedness

HIHS encourages all our Hawaii County pet owners to be safe and prepared in the unfortunate event of a disaster.

Tales with Tails

Children who are able to read at any level are invited with their parents to read to the dogs and cats that are available for adoption at the shelter.
